Volunteers make the Joe Martin Stage Race Successful!

To volunteer, fill out the Volunteer Form or e-mail/call the contact person under each category.

This year's event will require more than 250 volunteers willing to donate their time and energy to make each race an overwhelming success. Volunteers will work as: race marshals, assistant judges, team liaisons, racecourse preparation and tear-down. Each volunteer will receive a T-shirt and a fully-catered "THANK-YOU" party with prizes a few weeks after the race!

Please contact the Volunteer Coordinators, Bonnie and Dean LaGrone - blagrone@cox.net or call 479-750-2550 with any questions.

Also, for any race questions or logistics, please contact Bruce Dunn, Race Director, - bruce@misterguy.com or call 479-521-7766 for more information.

Race Day Check-in for Volunteers

Corner Marshals
This is our greatest need. Corner Marshals provide safety to both the riders and motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic along the race route. Volunteers will be responsible for controlling intersections throughout each day's events. Specific areas will be assigned, but volunteers will be posted at key crossroads throughout the Friday and Saturday road races, along the finishing stretch in Fayetteville for Friday's road race on Dickson Street and on Sunday's criterium course in the downtown area. Please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Bonnie and Dean LaGrone - blagrone@cox.net or call 479-750-2550 with any specific questions.

Feed Zones
We need volunteers to help on both Friday and Saturday in the feed zones. Feed Zones are areas on the course that the riders pass through and receive hand-ups in the form of water, bananas, energy gels and bars. This is an exciting area and one that the riders really appreciate. Please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Bonnie and Dean LaGrone - blagrone@cox.net or call 479-750-2550 with any specific questions.

Wheel Trucks

Adult-age drivers with full-size pickups trucks are needed to follow each race group on both the Friday and Saturday road races. Wheel trucks loaded with spare bike wheels follow the main pack of riders and if a rider has a flat, the truck stops and allows the rider to retrieve a spare wheel.
Please contact Wheel Truck Coordinator, Steve Jones - wsjones.ar@gmail.com or call 479-435-0993 with any specific questions.

Registration

We need volunteers to help with various elements of the registration process. Volunteers are needed to help with preparation of participants' entry packages on May 9 & 10. This will require approximately 2 hours each evening at a central location. Finally, volunteers are needed to help with the final registration and check-in of participants.

Host Families
House some or all of the race members of a pro-only race team. Hosts provide sleeping space, use of a bathroom, and refrigerator space. Providing food is not required, but a host family may offer to share meals or give the riders full use of the kitchen.
Contact Jim Holt jimyholt@cox.net or 479-366-3792 for more information.

Logistics
Work with our logistics' coordinator to get the race courses, as well as the start/finish areas ready each day for racing. This will involve some heavy lifting, setting up crowd control barricades, placing cones, sweeping corners of debris, erecting scaffolding, hanging banners. It's hard work, but your efforts are very visible!!
Contact Mike Oxford - moxford6@cox.net or 479-466-9715 for more information.

Assistant Judges
You'll have a prime seat on the finish line and know what's happening in each race. Helping USCF judges requires a full-day commitment for one or more days with times that vary, the ability to read numbers as they go speeding by, and a desire to have great fun.
Contact Kenda Grover - kgrover@uark.edu or 479-587-1041 for more information.

Souvenir Booth
Sell T-shirts, hats, socks and other souvenirs on Sunday during the downtown Criterium. This will be a lively atmosphere! Contact Cindy Creel creelc@swbell.net or 479-444-8188 for more information.

Race Marshals
Marshals are responsible for keeping cars off the course when bicyclists are in the vicinity, for pedestrian control and for assisting residents in reaching their destinations. Race marshal training is provided by Joe Martin Stage Race and law enforcement personnel. Race marshals receive a race marshal T-shirt. Shifts of 2 to 4 hours are needed. Contact Bonnie and Dean LaGrone - blagrone@cox.net or call 479-750-2550

Team Liaisons
These volunteers provide a one-on-one direct contact for the team with the race organizers, assist with race results and perform other team/event support activities.
Contact Stephen Ray Stafford at s_ray_s@hotmail.com or (870) 654-5022 for more information.

Media Hosts
Check in reporters and photographers at the press office and provide assistance for their needs, e.g. deliver race info and results.
