40TH ANNUAL JOE MARTIN STAGE RACE ATTRACTS TOP DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL PRO AND AMATEUR CYCLING TEAMS, FAYETTEVILLE, AR  (2017).

The 40th edition of the Joe Martin Stage Race will kick off March 30 – April 2, 2017 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

When the late Joe Martin help begin the Fayetteville Spring Classic Cycle race in 1978, he might not have realized it would become one of the longest and continually held races in the country.  On March 30-April 2, the Joe Martin Stage Race, renamed after Martin’s death in 1988, will celebrate its 40th anniversary as an amateur race; 15th year on the USA Cycling Professional Race Tour and the 3rd year on the Union Cycliste International America's Tour calendars.  The PRT is the pro and elite amateur cycling tour of USA Cycling.  The JMSR has become one of the premiere events on the professional cycling tour.  “Being able to celebrate 40 years of any event, especially this race, speaks a lot about the community, the racers, and the fans that come and support it”, said Bruce Dunn, Race director and owner of All Sports Productions, Inc.

The 4-day, 4-stage race will offer thousands of dollars in cash and merchandise.  This year’s event-planners are expecting over 750 athletes from 27 countries and all 50 states to attend the race.  The races begin Thursday, March 30 with a Pro Men, Pro Women and an Elite Men category uphill time trial that will push even the most seasoned athletes.  The events are expected to start at Noon.

Friday, the Pro Men’s road race begins at 11:30 am for a distance of 110 miles.  The Pro Women will start their 64 mile race at 12:15 pm.  Both races will finish beginning at 2:45 pm in the downtown retail and entertainment district of Fayetteville, Arkansas

Saturday’s action begins at 7:30 am with the amateur racers contesting the Devil’s Den Time Trial.  The Saturday afternoon road race is the third day and stage for the Pro Men and Women’s fields, as well as the second stage for the amateurs.

Sunday’s criterium races, which are the most spectator friendly, start at 8:00 am. The Pro women's race is contested at 2:30 pm and the Pro Men's race at 3:30 p.m.  There will be a special event for kids, ages 3-12 held at 2:00 pm.

"The really special thing about the Joe Martin is the people that return to Fayetteville, said Dunn.  This race has attracted those riders back to the area for vacations with their families.  They come back every year for the race, but we know they are starting to come back because of the attraction of the area and the city of Fayetteville."
